Many companies are recommending or requiring their employees to work from home during this COVID-19 pandemic. For many employees, working from home is an entirely new experience. And, although they have been working from home for months, they are still struggling to achieve any desirable results. With the pandemic resurging in the UK, Europe and North America, many employees should be prepared to continue working from home in 2021, at least for a few more months.
With that being said, we are going to take a look at some ways that you can reach a new level of productivity in the New Year:
Strictly Define Your Workspace- if boundaries are ambiguous, your personal life may intrude your workspace, making it difficult to concentrate on your work. Your workspace should be a place of solitude that accommodates higher productivity. Consider moving your workspace to a secluded corner of the home with minimum noise and foot traffic. Your workspace should be off limits for your family members.
Insulate Against Noise- this is a fairly easy DIY project for weekend. The noise of ambient traffic, family members and a neighbour’s pet can be effectively muted with proper insulation. Play a soft music to further mask the noise. Natural sounds or calming music can lower your blood pressure and help you to concentrate better.
Stick To A Rigid Schedule- follow your company’s regulation regarding the work hours. If business hour starts at 8AM, it’s a good thing to start working five minutes earlier. Because you don’t need to spend time commuting, this is an easy thing to do. By sticking to a schedule, you will set up a psychological boundary making it easier to resist the distractions.
Put Away Your Smartphone- because no one will scold you for using smartphone, it is important to consciously put it away. It is not enough to put your smartphone somewhere in the work area. Keep your smartphone out of sight and out of your mind. Tell clients and co-workers to contact you through VoIP, video call or email.
Walk Outside During Your Lunch Break- after having a lunch, you should walk outside for 15 minutes. This can help you to avoid cabin fever. The fresh air and sunlight could help clear your mind and keep you relaxed.
